According to Explore.org, Fat Bear Week is a tournament held in Katmai Alaska, where the brown bears compete in a tournament to celebrate the success of preparing for winter hibernation.

Most brown bears spend their winter hibernating to avoid cold weather and lack of abundant food sources. The National Park expressed that during this time the bears’ bodies drop in body temperature, pulse rate, and respiration. This means that brown bears rely solely on their stored body fat to survive until spring. “

Description
Beginning on Monday, October 28th and concluding on Wednesday, November 27th. Leaf trucks will circulate roads once per week during leaf pickup (typically on Wednesday). Dates and pickups are subject to change in accordance with weather conditions. Please have all leaves prepared for pickup by the end of the day on Sunday, December 1st. Leaf trucks will make one final sweep during the week of December 1st.

Guidelines for bulk leaf piles:
All leaves to be collected must be placed on the street.
Bags and rigid containers of leaves will not be collected.
Do not rake twigs, branches, walnuts, sticks, rocks, garden debris, etc. with the leaves: such items cause equipment to breakdown.
