Group bringing awareness to human trafficking in Monroe County

DELAWARE WATER GAP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— January is known as human trafficking and stalking awareness month. A local organization called "Safe Monroe" will hold its Red Sand Project event at Monroe County Courthouse Square on Wednesday January 15 at 1:00 p.m. Five people charged after 2023 homicide in Susquehanna County Red sand will be placed in cracks on the sidewalk to symbolize those who have fallen through the cracks as a result of human trafficking, and who need to break free from a bad situation.

Brown Named Majority Chairwoman of the Community, Economic, and Recreational Development Committee I’m excited to share that I have been appointed as the majority chairwoman of the Senate Community, Economic, and Recreational Development Committee (CERD). This committee plays a vital role in strengthening Pennsylvania’s economy and improving the quality of life for everyone across the state. Working closely with the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), the CERD Committee oversees major state programs like grants and loans that drive business growth, foster innovation, and support community development.

Stroudsburg Rifle Grabs Another Win

On Thursday, Stroudsburg traveled to Salisbury to take on the Falcons. They went home with a big win, 497 34x to 485 19x.  The top five marksmen in this match were Isabella Lisnik, ‘25, Gavin Dunkelberger, ‘25, William Tonnies, ‘25, Alysha Coker, ‘25, and Anthony Ortiz, ‘26. Lisnik and Dunkelberger both led the team with scores of 100 8x, paving the way for the win. Tonnies, Coker, and Ortiz all raked in a score of 99 7x, 6x, and 5x respectively. This match extends the teams’ winning streak and bumps their record to 6-1, with only 2 matches left in the regular season. The team has their sights set on moving on to districts.

Stroudsburg Rifle blows through Liberty Hurricanes

On Tuesday, the Stroudsburg Rifle team battled Liberty High School at home and came out victorious with 498 40x to the Hurricanes’ 484 19x.  The top shooters for the Mountaineers were Gavin Dunkelberger, ‘25, shooting a perfect 100 10x; William Tonnies, ‘25, shooting 100 9x, and Colin Barrett, ‘25, shooting 100 5x. This was Colin’s first time shooting 100 in a match.  Other performing marksmen on the team included Anthony Ortiz, ‘26, and Isabella Lisnik, ‘25, shooting 99 9x and 99 7x, respectively.  Currently, the SHS Rifle team sits at 5-1 with 3 matches remaining.
