STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Life-sized snowmen have taken over downtown Stroudsburg in the cold months but don’t be alarmed it’s all to help local artists and businesses.

Whether it’s the daytime or night there’s always a pop of color scattered throughout the Stroudsburg borough all thanks to the snowmen of Stroudsburg.

The community event, now in its seventh year, put on by ‘Go Collaborative’ brings together local businesses and artists like Emily Brier to host and design themed, life-size snowmen.

“My snowman is Heatmeiser and Snowmeiser from, ‘The Year Without a Santa Claus,’ it’s one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time.”

This isn’t Brier’s first snowman as she also created the ‘feeling groovy’ themed one on Main Street last year, but she says you have to be smart with your creativity due to them being scattered around the borough in the elements.

“The spray foam fire hair on Heatmeiser and the recycled plastic water bottles that are on Snowmeiser’s hair that were melted down to create ice cubes.”

You can find ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ with artist Linda Schwartz on Fifth and Sarah Street, with her first snowman created for the community initiative.

“Some things worked, some things didn’t work, some things I tried and I threw out, started again. It was an interesting process I’ll tell you that in terms of materials.”

Her ‘Wild Things’ snowman, along with all the others, has been on display since November.

Lots of eyes on the art that she says is priceless exposure for the dozens of artists taking part - and a perfect drive for visitors to stop by downtown and shop small.

“Whole families of kids that are looking at all the snowmen, they’re finding them on the map, they’re taking selfies, pictures of themselves, pictures of kids with the snowmen. I think it’s just a great family experience.”

The snowmen will be on display in Stroudsburg until February 21st. Maps and trading cards are available at select businesses downtown.
