The foundation stresses prevention through living a healthy active lifestyle, encouraging testing for early detection, and providing support to survivors.

D.A. believes Venezuelan gang is responsible for homicide
LONG POND, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Monroe County District Attorney Mike Mancuso stated in a release that he believes a Venezuelan prison gang is responsible for two shootings in the last year.
The shootings have been linked to Venezuelan street gang Trena de Aragua (Train to Aragua) or TdA, according to Mancuso.
This comes after several interviews with party attendees, done by Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department, who have expressed fear of retaliation by the gang.
On January 12, two people were shot at a residence on the 1300 block of Clover Road that resulted in the death of 22-year-old Lionardo Hernandez Zarata, of Venezuela.
Officials say he booked the private residence for a party to celebrate his birthday.

Brown Introduces Legislation to Support Volunteer Firefighters
In communities across Pennsylvania, volunteer firefighters play a critical role in ensuring our safety and security. These dedicated men and women respond to emergencies at all hours, often risking their lives to protect others.
The number of volunteer firefighters has plummeted from approximately 360,000 in the 1970s to just 30,000–38,000 today. This sharp decline is not just a statistic—it’s a growing threat to public safety and the long-term viability of our fire services. That’s why I’ve introduced legislation to create the Pennsylvania Volunteer Firefighter Incentive Fund.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Human trafficking survivor spotlights prevention month
28/22 NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Human trafficking is a crime hidden in plain sight happening all across the country.
Many people know the general definition of what it is but for 31-year-old Lacey Goldsmith it’s a horrific part of her life story dating back to 2015.
“I spent two and a half years being trafficked in between Pennsylvania, New York, and Florida.” . . . “Going through you know just some unspeakable things with where I was subjected, the violence.”
Organizations stepping up to help following EBT skimming
28/22 News first met Goldsmith back in 2022 where she spoke about a sting operation by the Monroe County District Attorney’s office that freed her from her trafficker in 2018.
