Snowboarders shredding for a cause

POCONO TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Snowboarders are shredding for a cause this weekend in the Poconos.

They took to the slopes of Camelback Mountain Saturday to support the national non-profit Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) at an annual event at Camelback Resort.

The foundation stresses prevention through living a healthy active lifestyle, encouraging testing for early detection, and providing support to survivors.

One of those survivors became a volunteer with the organization before she was ever diagnosed with breast cancer.

"Once you're diagnosed it's not over so having organizations like this that give back to those that have truly been through it is an incredible, incredible opportunity," B4BC Volunteer and Breast Cancer Survivor Macee Maddock said.

"The cool thing and great thing that I love working with this association is they will give a portion of the proceeds back to a local non-profit of our choice. So, it's not like the money just is fund-raised for, like, a big area. It also impacts the local area as well," said Camelback Resort Senior Activities Manager Lauren Brands.

Raffles and other activities are helping raise funds.

Some of that money will go to the Lehigh Valley-based non-profit Awareness 365.
