Meals on Wheels planning around winter weather
STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — With grey skies at Monroe County Meals on Wheels in Stroudsburg and snow in the forecast, early morning packing is on the agenda.
Executive director Alyssa Koeck and special events coordinator Stacey Koeck are busy assembling emergency bags with shelf-stable items, like soup and apple sauce, to be given to clients in case they need to cancel deliveries.
Alyssa says keeping an eye on the weather is part of the job.
"That way we can pull our deliveries back, we can make sure clients have emergency bags, and we can just be as prepared as we possibly can.”
The nonprofit that provides meals to more than 300 homebound or disabled adults in the county has already had to cancel once last week due to the weather.
A hot cocoa bar was set up to show thanks for their dedicated volunteers.

Iconic sign coming down in Pocono Township
POCONO TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An iconic welcome sign in the Poconos is coming down.
28/22 News was there Monday morning as crews started removing the sign at the intersection of Routes 715 and 611 in Tannersville.
This is all to widen the road.
The plan is expected to ease congestion in the area by cutting 40 feet through the mountain behind it.
Saying goodbye to more than 40-year-old Pocono Township sign
The man who built the sign in the 80s, and painted the restaurants and businesses showcased on it, knows the sign is cherished by many in the Poconos.
"When you see that sign, especially when you come home from a long trip you see that sign pull into town and you feel home," said Tannersville resident Tucker Reinhardt.
