Possible personnel cuts at Tobyhanna Army Depot

COOLBAUGH TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— The Trump Administration's mass firing of probationary employees through the Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE has its sights on Northeastern Pennsylvania. Tobyhanna Army Depot is the largest industrial employer in NEPA. They are currently in limbo after receiving instructions from the Department of Defense to let go of some of their staff. A northern California federal judge temporarily blocked the Trump Administration from its mass firing of probationary federal employees. WATCH: Trump shouts at Zelenskyy as he and Vance berate Ukrainian leader as ‘disrespectful’ The move from the administration is a part of the President's efforts to cut costs.

Who Are you? My name is Willie Watkins and I am the St. Luke’s Sports Performance Coach at Stroudsburg High school. Why did you decide to become a strength coach? I played sports my entire life and I knew when choosing a career that I wanted to choose something that allowed me to stay close to sports. Why did you chose to work for Stroudsburg? Stroudsburg High school was assigned to me by St. Luke’s, but I’m glad they put me here. I have been enjoying my time so far. If you went to college, which college did you go to and for what? I did undergrad at East Stroudsburg University in Athletic Training, and I did my master’s at Liberty University in Human Performance- Strength and Conditioning. Tobyhanna Little League Registrations

Description Only two weeks left to register for Tobyhanna Little League Baseball and Softball. Cost is $40.00 per player thanks in part to Gold Sponsor, Ed's Towing and Silver Sponsors, Ardent Mills and Food Express. Tobyhanna Little League is open to all children ages 4-16. The season begins April 1st (weather permitting) and ends in June. Practices and home games are held at the Coolbaugh Township Municipal Park located at 1810 Church Street, Tobyhanna. ESU Sport Management Students Compete on National Stage

Sport Management COSMATwo groups of students from East Stroudsburg University’s sport management program recently took their skills to the national stage, competing in a pair of competitions that tested their talent and showcased their potential. Participating in the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA) conference and the National Collegiate Sport Sales Competition also provided invaluable opportunities for networking, career advancement, and real-world application of concepts taught in the classroom. The first competition took place at the COSMA conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, from Jan. 29-31, where a group of four sport management students faced off against 10 other teams in the “Case Study Cup.”

Governor Josh Shapiro Announces Return of The Great American Getaway Entitlement for NASCAR Cup Series Race at Pocono Raceway

The VISITPA.COM-sponsored race is coming back to “The Tricky Triangle” on Sunday, June 22, as part of a NASCAR tripleheader weekend. Governor Shapiro understands the importance of the tourism industry to Pennsylvania’s economy, and included $64 million in funding in his proposed 2025-26 budget to prepare for America’s 250th birthday next year. LONG POND, PA (February 27, 2025) – Governor Josh Shapiro announced today that his Administration is partnering  with Pocono Raceway for the second year in a row as the race entitlement sponsor for the annual NASCAR Cup Series event. The 160-lap, 400-mile race will return as “The Great American Getaway 400 presented by VISITPA.COM” on Sunday, June 22.

Pocono Chamber of Commerce pays it forward to Habitat for Humanity

MARSHALLS CREEK, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Pocono Chamber of Commerce presented Monroe County Habitat for Humanity with a chunk of change on Wednesday. Last fall, volunteers with Habitat for Humanity helped out at Pickle Me Poconos, a festival held in East Stroudsburg. On Wednesday, the chamber paid it forward by presenting a check to Habitat for Humanity in the amount of $2,400, a percentage of the money raised at Pickle Me Poconos.

PHRC visits Monroe County in statewide tour

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PHRC) made a stop at the Pocono Family YMCA on Wednesday for their statewide tour, "PHRC on the road: Building a Beloved Community." The goal is to address issues and concerns like disability discrimination, racial and gender equality, and much more. At Wednesday's listening session, they presented a community framework and an overview of the services and programs offered. Scranton hospitals amping up security They also opened it up for the community to ask questions.

Fox involved in multiple attacks tests positive for rabies

(WBRE/WYOU) —  The Pennsylvania Game Commission confirmed the fox attacking residents earlier this month in Monroe County tested positive for rabies. On February 19, the Stroud Area Regional Police Department was called to a report of a fox attack on Congdon Avenue. Following an investigation, officers learned that multiple residents in the surrounding areas, including Hillcrest Drive, Howell Terrace, and Clause Drive, may have encountered the fox. Driver dies after colliding with pick-up truck Lieutenant Aaron Morrow, Regional Supervisor for the Northeast Region of the Pennsylvania Game Commission tells 28/22 News the fox was sent to the Pennsylvania Department of Health for testing.

New law supports first responders with post-traumatic stress

STROUD TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A new law to go into effect this year in the Keystone State is aimed at helping first responders diagnosed with post-traumatic stress injury. Grabbing gear and heading toward a building engulfed in flames or helping a person involved in a car crash in the dead of winter. It’s a response that emergency crews don’t think twice about doing or the mental impact it will have on them afterward. “I started at 14 years old in the fire service and at that age, you’re seeing things that most people never see.” Stroud Township Volunteer Assistant Fire Chief David Smalley, along with other first responders in the Poconos, on how dealing with post-traumatic stress will now be made easier to seek help Thanks to a new state law.
