Municipal building closed in Monroe County after threats to public, employee safety

COOLBAUGH TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A municipal building is closed in Monroe County after threats to public and employee safety. The Coolbaugh Township Municipal Center and Department of Public Works are now closed until further notice. Luzerne County nursing home set to close The threats came after Coolbaugh Township Supervisor Cara Rogan got into an argument with a resident in a pharmacy drive-through window. A township meeting was held Tuesday night, but it's unclear if the threats came at the meeting.

Local Seniors Learn Life-Saving Skills from ESU Students

exercise scienceMembers of The Older Adult Learning Community (TOALC) received a free lesson in life-saving skills during a class led by graduate students in East Stroudsburg University’s exercise science program on Feb. 26 at East Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church. The interactive class focused on avoiding/minimizing the impact of falls, an injury risk older adults are particularly vulnerable to, especially in the winter months, explained TOALC vice president Gregory Nulle. “That’s a big concern for seniors,” Nulle said. Students Stephanie Malone, Kelsi Mount, Zia Nicholson, Joseph Stofanak and Ryan Tegtmeier began by explaining the causes of falls, offering tips on how to fall-proof a living space, and discussing why staying active is important.

Authorities investigating Monroe County fire after 2 dead, 1 injured, building destroyed

EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man and a woman died Wednesday after a fire in Monroe County. The cause is now being looked into after the flames destroyed the building in East Stroudsburg. In addition to the two deceased victims, a third is in the hospital receiving treatment. Their condition is unknown at this time. The deadly fire caused great devastation. A fiery blaze burned through the second floor of the Wander Inn Bar and Grill late Wednesday morning. The intense flames at the restaurant on South Courtland Street took the lives of several people inside. "Probably the worst fire we have had in 10 years or so," East Stroudsburg Fire Chief Nate Black stated.

Deadly fire, building destroyed in East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A deadly fire is under investigation that caused a building to be destroyed in East Stroudsburg. The call came in for a fire in the 200 block of South Courtland Street in East Stroudsburg around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Officials with the East Stroudsburg Borough report the fire is deadly. The fire chief tells 28/22 News that the fire left three victims but did not specify how many have died.

Brother of Wawa shooting suspect charged

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The brother of a man accused of killing a teen at Wawa in Stroudsburg has been charged as a third suspect in the case. According to the Stroud Area Regional Police Department, 18-year-old Christopher Quattrochi, of Bushkill, is charged in the incident at Wawa on November 30 that led to the death of 17-year-old Garret Gearhart. Garret Gearhart 25-year-old Andrew Joseph Quattrochi, of Bushkill, was arrested on criminal homicide charges in the death of Gearheart.

Monroe County ice cream shop open for the season

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A popular local ice cream shop is now open for the season in Monroe County. Lewis' Drive-In offers fast food and ice cream in East Stroudsburg and was busy this weekend with the slightly warmer weather. They opened last Friday, and so far, they are starting their season strong. Monroe County business hard at work making fastnacht "Lewis' Drive-In brings, really brings the community together. This summer, we're hoping to do a couple specials here and there. We're hoping for some warm weather, hopefully, but we have had a lot of support recently, and we're just excited to be open," Manager Reagan Brown explained. Lewis' is offering a buy one banana split, get one free deal until Friday, March 7.
