A countywide strategic plan focused on gun safety in Monroe County is now available for all community members to review. Informed by data analysis, surveys, and focus groups the intention of the strategic plan is to achieve realistic, local-level, data-driven, research-based recommendations, policies, and practices that promote firearm safety and prevent gun violence.

Sen. Brown Releases Statement on the Route 611 Closure in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
MONROE – Sen. Rosemary M. Brown (R-40) today offered insights into the ongoing discussions regarding the prolonged closure of Route 611 in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, which has been closed since Dec. 6, 2022, causing significant disruption to residents, businesses and commuters. Since the closure began, Brown has been collaborating with stakeholders to develop a unified strategy among competing interests. Government agencies involved include the National Park Service, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Federal Highway Administration and Indigenous Tribal Leaders.

New Dean Named to ESU’s College of Health Sciences
Margaret Ball, D.M.A., provost and vice president for academic affairs at East Stroudsburg University, announced the appointment of Brian Street, Ph.D. as the dean of the College of Health Sciences effective July 15, 2024. The appointment replaces a role within the division that was previously filled on an interim basis by Chad Witmer, Ph.D., professor of exercise science.
Polk Township Supervisors Vote on Effort Solar Conditional Use Application - June 25, 2024

Polk Township's Board of Supervisors held a special meeting to vote solely on the Effort Solar Conditional Use Application.
The supervisors voted to deny the application. The votes were the following:

After the meeting, I confirmed with township solicitor that the motion was 3-0 for denying the application and he said yes it was 3-0.
An official written decision will be mailed to all registered parties by July 1, 2024. Parties and the Applicant have until July 30 to file an appeal if they disagree with the decision.
