Rep. Wild Congratulates 2023 U.S. Military Academy Appointees from PA-07

ALLENTOWN, P.A. – As the 2023-2024 school year begins, Congresswoman Susan Wild congratulates the eight students who accepted appointments to attend four United States Military Academies. The academies include the United States Military Academy (West Point), United States Naval Academy (USNA), United States Air Force Academy (USAFA), and United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA). Nominated by Rep. Wild last year, these students underwent a competitive application and appointment process and will join the Class of 2027.

Traffic Safety Grants Awarded

This week, the state provided nearly $36 million in grants that will be used to relieve traffic in 77 Pennsylvania municipalities through traffic signal upgrades and measures to increase safety and mobility. I am pleased to announce two municipalities in the 40th district were recipients totaling $685,566.

AG: Woman straw purchases 30 guns, weapons for felon boyfriend

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Attorney General announced the arrests of two Monroe County residents for an alleged straw purchasing operation that involved a woman buying guns for her boyfriend, a convicted felon.

According to Attorney General Michelle Henry, Melissa Saldana and Ramon Roldan, Jr., both age 39, are charged with numerous violations of the Uniform Firearms Act, and false swearing.

East Stroudsburg Area School District hired 60 new teachers

EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Schools across the nation are facing serious teacher shortages, but one district in our area is bucking the trend.

The East Stroudsburg Area School District is adding 60 new teachers to classrooms this year.

These teachers are getting a few lessons of their own before their students head back to class at the East Stroudsburg School Area District's Annual Teacher Induction Ceremony.

PD: Man wanted for delivering drugs that killed one

MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Investigators are searching for a man they say is wanted for drug delivery that resulted in the death of a 33-year-old man.

According to the Monroe County Office of the District Attorney in March 2023 a 33-year-old Stroudsburg man, Steven Nitschke, was found dead in his home of an apparent drug overdose.

An autopsy and toxicology report showed Nitschke’s cause of death was fentanyl toxicity.  

Cartwright announces millions in funding for first responders

(WBRE/WYOU)— Congressman Matt Cartwright announced Thursday millions of dollars will go to funding local police, prosecutors, and first responders in his district.

The release stated $3.5 million will go to the Scranton Police Department as part of community project funding. The project is meant to purchase new body cameras, mobile video recorders, and Tasers. According to Cartwright, the new equipment will help direct supervisors audit specific incidents and add virtual reality training modules for officers.

Car shop faces lawsuit, allegedly selling unreliable cars

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — A lawsuit has been filed against a business in Monroe County for reportedly selling unreliable cars.

According to Attorney General (AG) Michelle Henry, a lawsuit has been filed against 390 Auto Group LLC in Monroe County and the owner Elias Baladi, for selling vehicles without disclosing that the vehicles had major operational issues.

Attorney General Henry says, "390 Auto and Baladi advertised and mislead the customers into believing they were buying 'quality automobiles at the best price possible.'"

Summer 2023 DC Student Interns

Four East Stroudsburg University students are spending the summer in Washington, D.C. interning with organizations, agencies and legislators. They are serving as interns through the Washington Center, a nonprofit organization that provides internships and seminars to college students interested in learning more about government, politics, and how public policy is shaped.

State Treasurer announced more than $28M owed to Monroe County residents

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A State Treasurer, Stacy Garrity stopped by Monroe County Monday and announced that more than $28 million is owed to Monroe County residents.

It is part of the state's unclaimed property being held in a vault in the State Capitol. In total, Pennsylvania State Treasury is holding $4.5 billion in unclaimed property.

Garrity, along with State Senator Rosemary Brown are working together to encourage Pennsylvanians to begin the claim process.
