BLAKESLEE, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Sleet is beginning to accumulate across the region and could cause for a dicey morning commute if you need to be on the roads.

Maya Angelou
“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel,” said Maya Angelou.
Angelou is famously known as a writer, poet, playwright, editor, and essayist. Did you know she was also a civil rights activist?
Angelou was a civil rights activist who worked for Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King. Her earlier careers involved being a singer, dancer, actress, and composer.
In 1969, Angelou published her astounding autobiography, “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sing”, making her a national figure overnight.
Eating up the Super Bowl
The 2025 Super Bowl between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs is only days away. There will be parties held all over the country to watch this favorited event and the food is just as important as the game. Is your menu ready?
Different foods define a party. A various selection of Stroudsburg students listed the one food that defines their Super Bowl party.
A poll of ten students found that three students preferred wings, three students preferred nachos, and four students preferred other foods.
Chicken wings have been a popular sports food. In a poll from The Poultry Federation, it is estimated that Americans will consume about 1.47 billion chicken wings for the upcoming Super Bowl.
January School Board Update
While the board meetings have died down in activity since the last update, a few new additions are on the horizon.
Two new courses were approved by the board, those being Minority Voices in America and Principles of Engineering.
Minority Voices of America strives to explore the works of various minority writers throughout history.
The Principles of Engineering course explores the ways in which modern engineers improve our lives. In addition, they will learn to use a few of the tools that the aforementioned engineers utilize.
There were also three finalized retirements at the board meeting. The French teacher and NHS advisor, Mrs. Verwey, and English teacher, Mrs. Griswold, are both retiring at the end of the school year.
That’s all there is to report for the January 2025 school board meeting.
Punxsutawney Phil has some competition
On February 2, 2025, Punxsutawney Phil made his prediction for six more weeks of winter, but don’t fret, he only has a 30 percent accuracy. Phil has been predicting whether for 137 years, how has he been predicting our seasons wrong for over a century?
Well, he is not the only groundhog making predictions. Across the nation, many groundhogs have been predicting weather, but none as long as Punxsutawney Phil. In New York, Staten Island Chuck contradicted Phil’s prediction, with spring coming early. Chuck has been making predictions since 1981, and his accuracy is 85 percent– much higher than Phil’s.
Keeping People Safe From Hazardous Spills

Police searching for missing Monroe County man
CHESTNUT HILL TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) announced on Tuesday they're searching for a missing person in Monroe County.
State Police explain they're searching for 82-year-old James Mills.
Mills was last seen in the area of the 100 block of Hartman Lane, Chestnut Hill Township, Monroe County, on February 1, around 5:00 p.m., according to PSP.
Poached eggs: 100,000 organic eggs stolen from Pa. farm
Mills is described by troopers to be a white man, standing at five feet and eleven inches tall with grey hair and brown eyes.
According to PSP, Mills is operating a 2017 Dodge Ram Pickup with a PA registration PD9115W.
Authorities believe Mills may be at special risk of injury or harm, or may be confused.

Road restrictions across Pa. for latest winter storm
(WBRE/WYOU) — With snow and ice expected Thursday, PennDOT is urging caution for those traveling on Pennsylvania roadways.
Snow is moving into the area Thursday with sleet and freezing rain to follow across Pennsylvania and there is potential for icy conditions on the roads.
PennDOT is temporarily reducing the speed limit to 45 mph and restricting commercial vehicles to the right lane only on the following roadways:
The silver lining for the boys’ basketball
Despite the 4-20 record, the boys’ basketball team was successful in rebuilding a varsity team — mentally and physically.
