When people think of Medusa, the gorgon with snake hair and eyes that turn people to stone, there are typically two interpretations that come to mind: a symbol of survival or a grotesque beast.  Today, Medusa is often used as a symbol for survivors of sexual assault. But how did the myth change over time and how is it depicted in Natalie Haynes’ novel “Stone Blind”?   How has the myth of Medusa changed over time?

Business teacher, Jodie Haggerty, teaches a Microsoft Office course that offers Microsoft Office Specialist Students (MOS) special certifications throughout the school year in Word and PowerPoint Excel. This year, Davin Humphrey, ’27, placed first in the state for earning the highest score in the fastest time in the Word Certification Program and will be going to Texas this summer to go to World Championships. In addition, Carter Englert, ’27 , placed fifth, Corey O’Donnell, ’27, placed sixth, and Diego Morales, ’25, placed in the top 10 as well. Englert states that they “prepared for months.” He adds that he “felt confident but didn’t know if it would be enough to place.”

On Monday,  the Girls’ basketball team won over district rival Pocono Mountain West for the second time this season. Earlier in the season Stroudsburg completely crushed the Panthers 55-16, they still considered this a tough game. Going into the game.  West’s record of 7-14 needed one more win to qualify for districts. Adriana Borizo, ’26, quotes, ¨They were putting everything they had into this game, and it made it challenging.¨ The game was close throughout the first and second quarters until the Mountaineers took the lead during the third. The Panthers put forth one of their best performances, but the Lady Mounties secured the win 63-41. McKayla Strunk, ’25, scored 27 points in this game. Emily Bozena, ’25,  scored 11 points in this game. Adriana Borizo, ’26, had 8 points this game. This is the last game of the regular season. Some of the players were asked what was their favorite memory of the season.

While celebrating their many achievements of the 2024-2025 school year, Stroudsburg Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) will reach an outstanding 40 year anniversary this year.  Over the past four decades, Stroudsburg FBLA has left its mark on the community and school district by participating in various activities and opportunities.  Stroudsburg FBLA has worked with many organizations such as the Salvation Army, the United Methodst Church located on Main Street, Quiet Valley Historical Farm, Arlington Elementary School, various food pantries, and so many more. With these connections, FBLA members build relationships with those in their community and help those in need.
