Fun & Fitness Day prevails despite gloomy weather

Despite the disappointing forecast for the week of May 5 to May 9, the Varsity Sports Club at Stroudsburg High School hosted its 40th annual Fun & Fitness Day at the SHS stadium on May 8, 2025. From 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., 4th graders from all schools at SASD enjoyed many outdoor activities that encourage good physical health. Varsity S is a sports-based club at SHS, advised by Kimberly Brown and Elwood Perry, both physical education/health teachers at SHS. They work hard behind the scenes of every event that the club hosts or assists in, making it enjoyable for everyone involved. Whether it’s made to benefit the elementary schools, middle schools, special education, or our very own Stroudsburg High School, Brown and Perry put their all to make the fun happen. “It was really fun and good to come together to make a memorable experience for the kids.” says Charlotte Kish, ’26

SHS food pantry provides students with more than food

In January 2025, Maria Gondella and Ilene Austin started a food pantry for Stroudsburg High School.   They spearheaded the food pantry because they saw a need and knew we had many food-insecure students here at Stroudsburg. “We knew that if people are hungry, it makes it hard to focus on school, so we wanted to help students and their families,” shared reading specialist, Maria Gondella. They give out food such as rice, soup, mac and cheese, pasta, and other more substantial items. The pantry also offers snacks, like granola bars, chips, yogurt, cereal, and candy. In addition to food, the pantry offers hygiene products such as deodorant, soap, shampoo, and feminine products.

Baseball prepares for EPC 1st Round matchup

After putting together their most successful season in nearly a decade, Stroudsburg Baseball is set to take on Nazareth in the opening round of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference (EPC) baseball playoffs. Thanks to their strong performance throughout the regular season, the Mountaineers secured home-field advantage and are scheduled to host the playoff matchup later today. However, weather conditions may pose a problem. Rain has been falling consistently, and forecasts don’t look promising leading up to first pitch, which is currently set for 4 p.m. If conditions don’t improve, there’s a strong possibility the game could be postponed. Stroudsburg comes into the game riding a wave of momentum. After a slow 4-4 start to the season, the team found its rhythm and has since won nine of its last eleven games. Since April 10, they have lost just twice, finishing the regular season with one of the best records in the conference and peaking at the right time.

2025 Primary election only days away

The 2025  primary elections are fast approaching and are set to take place on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.  The following seats are open for Monroe County: Court of Common Pleas, Magisterial Judge, Judge of the Superior Court, Coroner, Stroudsburg School Director at Large, Judge of the Commonwealth Court, Treasurer, Council Member, Tax Collector, Judge of Election, Inspector of Election, and Mayor. “The primaries are important. Sometimes I get frustrated when I see people standing up to our bigger government, and they don’t vote in the smaller elections,” expresses Sophie Best, ’26. “The smaller elections affect them more because if we get people to fight for us and bring our voice up, then we will have more problems solved.” Running for Council Member are Michael Schroder and Walter TJ Lopez on the Republican ballot; Claire Crawford Braun and Cheryl Joubert on the Democrat ballot.
