Some of us also long for another kind of connection: a connection with the natural world, with its rhythms and peace, its forests and wetlands and wildlife, its profound beauty.

Rental property stirs up controversy in Monroe County

By Emily Allegrucci,

POCONO MANOR, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local rental property in the Poconos is stirring up controversy for much more than noise complaints.

The property has been a point of contention for its lack of licensing to operate as a rental, but neighbors have more concerns than what’s on paper.

We first heard about this property at a Pocono Township hearing on April 23 addressing its lack of permits .

The hearing was scheduled to continue this evening but was canceled due to the property owners settling with the township.

Locals thought this was a win at first, but soon saw the cycle was repeating itself.

Safety Concerns Continue At The Monroe County Jail

Safety concerns continue as a new investigation is underway at the Monroe County Jail.

Allegations are circling about contraband continuing to make its way into the prison in Snydersville.

Some Monroe County Corrections Officers remain in fear for their lives.

But we’re told the administration is starting to work with them when it comes to their safety.

Monroe County Corrections Officer Hero says, "Like fentanyl, a little bit of that gets in the air, I’m sure we’ve all seen those videos of police officers doing traffic stops and overdosing. That could very well happen to us during a cell search and I want to go home and see my children tonight."

Fentanyl is just one of the substances that is possibly being brought into the Monroe County Correctional Facility.

"Walk In Wednesday" Hopes To Benefit Veterans

A new program in Monroe County to help veterans get a hand up on the homefront is not getting the response organizers hoped they'd receive. Officials need to get the word out to reach more servicemen and women. News13's Nicole Walters shares what "Walk In Wednesday" is about.

Bags of nonperishable food items are checked this morning inside Paul’s House in Jonas. The Valor Clinic Foundation has many lined up and ready to go for "Walk In Wednesday."

Valor Clinic Founder Mark Baylis says, "This is the third month. It seems like we’re starting to get a little uptick. We’ve had a few more people than we’ve had in the past. That’s great so we’re going to keep running it."

Army Veteran Victor Arocho recently moved to Tamaqua and is one of those people stopping by today.
