Jim Carrey’s masterful interpretation of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)”, was recently removed from free streaming services. Despite the movie’s ongoing popularity two decades later, fans will not be able to freely stream it on their favorite platforms. The animated version, “The Grinch (2018)”, and the classic animation from 1966 are streamable; however, Jim Carrey’s version must be rented or purchased to enjoy it. It can be found on platforms such as Amazon Prime, YouTube, Hulu, and Vudu. Friday Nov. 27, 2024, the movie “Wicked” hit the big screen. The movie was long awaited after its announcement in 2021, with the first trailer being launched during the 2024 Super Bowl.  The Wicked Witch of the West, or Elphaba, was played by Cynthia Erivo, a Broadway and Hollywood actress. The Munchkins are greeted by the words of Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, played by Ariana Grande, a musical artist and actor. She retells the Munchkins the story of the Wicked Witch of the West. The Munchkinland sets are spectacularly built by hand and there is no CGI. Every tulip is planted which includes hundreds of thousands. The bright expressive colors grab the attention in the beginning of the film. 

Walking through the school hallways between classes you might hear people complaining about a “situationship.”   This slang has taken teenagers by storm, but what does it mean? According to the Oxford Dictionary, a situationship is a romantic relationship that is not considered formal or established. The newer term is used primarily by Gen-Z to combine friendship and romance without commitment. When East Stroudsburg University freshman Madison Siggins was in fourth grade, what started as a stomach virus spiraled into a frightening, months-long medical crisis that left her unable to eat, walk or communicate effectively. Now a member of ESU’s women’s basketball team after a standout high school sports career, Madison’s long road to recovery not only gave her a second chance at life, it also inspired her brother, senior ESU football player John Siggins, to pursue a degree in nursing so he could make a similar impact in the lives of others. “She was pretty close to not making it,” said John, who was in eighth grade at the time.  “Being around that experience really affected me and so I decided I wanted to help people out the same way my sister was helped out.”

Stroudsburg Varsity Rifle team wins their home opener, defeating Kutztown by scoring 496 33x to 493 32x. This match was played virtual for both teams as the weather wasn’t optimal for travel. The Mountaineers were led by Isabella Lisnik, ’25, 100 7x, Anthony Ortiz, ’26, 100 5x, Maxsim Lamberton,’25, 99 8x, William Tonnies, ’25, 99 7x, and Alexander Franolich, ’25, 96 6x. The Mountaineers are 1-0 and will play Berwick at 6 p.m. on December 5, 2024.

Last night, Stroudsburg fell to East Stroudsburg South, 48-47. This was their fourth consecutive loss to open up the season after making the playoffs a year ago. Stroudsburg got out to an early lead in the first, forcing South to burn a timeout halfway through the quarter. Out of that timeout, South went on a 12-2 run that lasted into the second quarter. Stroudsburg was ice-cold, not being able to get a single bucket to fall. The Mountaineers were not able to score again until the 4-minute mark of the second quarter. They found themselves down by 6 going into the half. The two teams would continue a back-and-forth affair until the fourth quarter, where Stroudsburg started to mount a comeback, leading to a tied game with 50 seconds remaining.
