Chess dominated in season opener
Stroudsburg Varsity Chess team lost its’ opening match against Pocono Mountain West 5-2, in a game that the team had high spirits going into.
Stroudsburg, using their “top seven” players, crumbles with only Board 2 Duncan Ruschman, ’26 and Megan Lisnik, ’26, pulling out wins in their matches.
The Mountaineers did get blown out, however, the team still has high hopes for future match ups.
Stroudsburg has one week to prepare for its next match against Pleasant Valley on November 19. It looks to bounce back against a team that lost 7-0 to Pocono Mountain East. The match will be played at 3:00 p.m. in the High School library.

Our co-worker and Barrett Twp. neighbor, Sherline Eugene (FS school bus driver at Pocono Mtn. East), suddenly lost her 26-year-old son, Akili Eugene, due to an unknown ingestion of nuts, as he had an allergy to them. Akili leaves behind his wife Jahmelia and young son Abijah.

Welcome Center closed for roof, facility evaluations in Delaware Water Gap
DELAWARE WATER GAP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Delaware Water Gap Welcome Center in Monroe County off Interstate 80 is closed for roof and facility evaluations.
Damage was found in the interior of the building and they're trying to assess the damage in order to develop a repair plan.
Historic Wilkes-Barre building demolishedThe facility will remain closed until further notice.
Travelers can use the rest stop facilities on I-80 East in Luzerne County and I-80 West in Morris County, New Jersey.
Monroe County approves temporary homeless encampment location
STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Street2Feet is also working with Stroudsburg and Monroe County officials to find solutions for the homeless.
They say the homeless population has significantly grown in the Stroudsburg area over the past year.
The county decided to allow their property in the wooded area behind Glen Park in Stroudsburg to be a temporary location for the homeless to set up an encampment.
Street2Feet gets donation to help homeless community"The long-term solution obviously is to try to find some kind of housing. I know the county is looking at that problem. From our point of view, what we're trying to do is, we're trying to keep all the homeless people in one area and try to get services to them as much as possible," said Stroudsburg Borough Manager Larry Kopp.

Street2Feet gets donation to help homeless community
EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — People in need are getting a helping hand in the Poconos.
Street2Feet received a generous donation from the PEO Sisterhood to assist the homeless community in Monroe County.
The organization began a drive to collect items from donors in September.
On Wednesday, PEO dropped off the items which include tents, clothing, and toiletries.
Popular Clifford Township restaurant to reopen"They are the only organization that has a day program for homeless people here in Monroe County and we really feel that this is unfortunately it's a big need in Monroe County and so we wanted to support that need," said CK Philanthropic Education Organization Vice President Christine McDannell.
