STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A plan is developing among borough officials and a variety of local groups, both faith-based and secular, to build a food resource center in Stroudsburg.
The idea came from Father Bruce Gowe of Christ Episcopal Church, which is next door to the borough building who says they were outgrowing their basement food pantry.
Borough prepares for annual Cherry Blossom Festival"The pantry at the Christ Episcopal Church right now is feeding over 600 families every two weeks which is an incredible strain on the church and on the community as a whole so there is a need. And we're hoping this pantry will help meet some of that need and take some of the burden off a lot of the individual nonprofits," voiced Joshua Loomis, community organizer.
The most immediate step is to create an organization that would bring many groups together to help meet the need of the food insecure in the area.
Another part of the plan is to have a centralized location that would be accessible to those without vehicles.
