Bethune became a trusted advisor to both Roosevelt and her husband, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and played a key role in shaping government policies for Black Americans during the 1930s and '40s. https://www.biography.com/history-culture/eleanor-roosevelt-mary-mcleod-bethune-friendship We have developed an entire program on this unique relationship between First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and Mary McLeod Bethune and the impact on our government and society. Our Keynote Speakers will be Tameko Patterson, Chair of the Monroe County Democratic Committee and recipient of the Mary McLeod Bethune Award from the Easton Branch of the NAACP at their 80th Anniversary Gala held in April of 2024, and Carlos Cubas, Vice-Chair of the Monroe County Democratic Committee. This is history not often found in our schools' lesson books. Come to learn and also meet our Democratic candidates committed to the causes and values that these incredible women established!
