A dispute over Coolbaugh Township’s authority could alter municipalities’ power to revise ordinances.

Monroe County’s economic development organization and a private landowner are suing Coolbaugh Township over municipal ordinance changes that expand wetland buffers for new development.

Township officials say the changes, approved in August 2023, create additional protections for wetlands and nearby waterways.

Coroner IDs man killed at bar in Middle Smithfield Twp.

MIDDLE SMITHFIELD TWP., Pa. - The Monroe County Coroner has identified a man killed at a bar last week.

The manner of death for Henry David Koroma, Jr., formerly of Scranton, was ruled a homicide, according to Monroe County Coroner Tom Yanac.

Yanac says he is not yet releasing the cause of death pending further investigation.

SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — 28/22 News was able to get new information after a fire damaged the East Stroudsburg University Innovation Center Tuesday.

Officials for the school say they have plans to remove personal, office, and lab equipment, from the damaged building in Monroe County. They’re working to relocate university employees.
