Brown Appointed to Governor’s Advisory Commission on Women

Last week, I was sworn into the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Women along with 26 other members from across the Commonwealth. The purpose of the Commission is to identify issues primarily experienced by women and work on solutions to address them. The Commission accomplishes this through information gathering, hosting events, building awareness, and sharing resources. The Commission hosts a variety of events throughout the year including Breast Cancer Awareness Month, National STEM Day, Women’s History Month, along with many others.

Man wanted for reported theft in Monroe County

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is wanted by Pennsylvania State Police in Stroudsburg for a reported theft.

PSP is looking for James Gerald Bruner (pictured below) who was recently accused of being involved in a theft of internet and phone communication line.

According to PSP, the thefts Bruner is accused of have cost tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage. The thefts have also prolonged internet and phone outages for local and commercial businesses.

PSP says Bruner also has an active bench warrant in Bucks County.

Pike County Public Library Updates Space

The Pike County Public Library has updated its space, more than tripling its children's area.  News 13's Preston Ehrler has the story from Milford.

Elements Music and Arts Festival comes to Monroe County

LONG POD, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A couple of weeks ago Pocono Raceway was filled with NASCAR fans, this weekend it will be filled with fans of art and music.

The Elements Music and Arts Festival is one of the largest EDM festivals on the East Coast and it has made Pocono Raceway its home for the second time.

Scam impacting the Monroe County area

MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Troop N wishes to remind the Monroe County area of a current scam impacting the community.

Usually, the scammers will contact you by phone and explain that your loved one, they may even know their name, typically a grandchild, is in trouble or currently in jail.

The scammers will often tell victims not to talk to anyone about the phone call as it will be an embarrassment to the family. They will then tell you that your loved one will be released from jail in exchange for cash.

The scammers will then ask for an address where they can pick up the money and send someone to pick up the cash.

Multiple crews respond to Monroe County, possible hazmat situation

MIDDLE SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A possible hazmat situation in Monroe County had crews from multiple areas responding to the incident.

Crews from multiple areas were called to the 100 block of Tumble Court in Middle Smithfield Township.

Car shop faces lawsuit, allegedly selling unreliable cars

A decontamination unit was also reported to be on scene.

Missing Monroe County man found dead

EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Monroe County man who was reported missing, has been found deceased.

On Monday the Stroud Area Regional Police Department said officers took a report of a missing person from the East Stroudsburg Area. The missing person was William C. Read who was described as a 36-year-old white man, standing 5'6" tall, around 145 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.

Police say Read was reported missing since Friday, August 4, when he left his residence in East Stroudsburg after being upset. Read's mother called the police when he did not return home and Read was entered into NCIC as a missing/endangered person.

Car shop faces lawsuit, allegedly selling unreliable cars

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — A lawsuit has been filed against a business in Monroe County for reportedly selling unreliable cars.

According to Attorney General (AG) Michelle Henry, a lawsuit has been filed against 390 Auto Group LLC in Monroe County and the owner Elias Baladi, for selling vehicles without disclosing that the vehicles had major operational issues.

Attorney General Henry says, "390 Auto and Baladi advertised and mislead the customers into believing they were buying 'quality automobiles at the best price possible.'"

"It was discovered that many of the vehicles that were being purchased were unreliable, did not pass inspection, and had serious engine and transmission issues," stated AG Henry.

Warrant issued for suspect in Stroudsburg shooting

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Stroud Area Regional Police Department has identified a suspect in a shooting that took place in Stroudsburg last month.

According to police on Thursday, July 27, around 1:21 a.m., officers were notified of a shooting that just occurred at the intersection of North 6th Street and Main Street in Stroudsburg.

Police say a bouncer at a Monroe County bar called "Philly Pub" reported hearing several gunshots, and further calls revealed there was a physical altercation in front of the bar and five gunshots were heard.

Detectives say upon arrival they found four spent 9mm bullet casings, a suspected bullet hole in one building, and a live 9mm round on the sidewalk located next door to "Philly Pub."
