It’s the end of one era and the beginning of another at a resort in Monroe County. Employees at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort are saying goodbye to their over 100 year old seasonal bridge as they open up the new permanent one today.
It’s the final walk on the seasonal bridge at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort. Come Monday, it will be taken down for the very last time.
Employee Wayne Dotter says, "I didn’t think I would live to see it. I really never did."
70-year-old Wayne Dotter has been working on the bridge which leads to the island golf course for the past 17 years.
Dotter says, "We’ve put it up and taken it down countless times, the river comes up and wipes it out, then we have to rebuild it and put it back up."
Located on Main Street, The Cure Cafe opened in August of 2016 and is owned by Katie and Danny Ace, former Stroudsburg High School alumni.
The Aces proudly serve homemade breakfasts and lunches that cater to every diet. From vegan and gluten-free diets to common allergies, dietary concerns, and preferences are all taken into account. This quaint cafe creates a relaxing atmosphere while it strives to accommodate its customers’ unique needs, and their efforts are paying off.
For the past 7 years, the cafe has had only one dining room, leading wait times to be upwards of an hour.
The cafe originally started with only nine tables making it difficult to accommodate larger parties. The expansion happened in the summer of 2023, adding an entire new dining room on the other side which has added six additional tables and a counter facing Main Street.
The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), a student-run organization at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, invites community members to a Trunk or Treat event followed by STEM Day activities on Saturday, October 28.
ESU student organizations will participate in the Trunk or Treat from 12:30-1:30 p.m., decorating their cars, handing out treats, and hosting games and craft tables.
The event will take place on campus, in the parking lot located behind Hoeffner Science and Technology Center (Lot FS20 on the campus map.)
The Trunk or Treat is open to all area children, and there is no cost to participate. Children can wear their costumes and should bring a trick-or-treat bag. Parents are required to accompany children to campus and must remain present throughout the course of the event.
