One of the most important aspects of school is safety.

When a parent sends their child into the school building, they put their trust in the school’s administration and staff to keep their children safe. 

In a study from 2018, according to the Center For Homeland Defense and Security, a total of 51 students were killed and 107 were wounded in school shooting incidents. That same study reported that in 2022, the number of students killed decreased to 50, but the number of students wounded rose to 111. 

“You never know what’s going to happen, you never know when a real situation happens how people are going to react,” explained Mr. Jeffery Sodl, principal of Stroudsburg High School. “Every situation is different, so you can train as much as you want, you can drill as much as you want, but there are no guarantees.”

I’ve been teaching at Stroudsburg since 2007.

What is your favorite part about teaching? 

My favorite part about teaching is my students! I love working with students of all abilities, backgrounds, and personalities and seeing students progress in their skills, confidence, and self-awareness. It really is the greatest feeling to see a student succeed or “get” the lesson.

What is one piece of advice you would share with your students?

A Journal for Jordan is based on the true story of First Sergeant Charles Monroe King, a soldier deployed to Iraq who begins a journal of advice and love for his infant son. Back at home, senior New York Times editor Dana Canedy revisits the story of her unlikely, life-altering relationship with King and his enduring devotion to her and their child.

A sweeping account of a once-in-a-lifetime love, the films is a powerful reminder of the importance of family. Directed by Denzel Washington, the film stars Michael B. Jordan and Chanté Adams. The film is based on the book by Dana Canedy, A Journal for Jordan: A Story of Love and Honor.

Admission is free. This film is rated PG-13.

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A long-standing plan to transform Interstate 80 in Monroe County may finally be underway soon, but not without some input from the community.

28/22 News Reporter Emily Allegrucci was at an emotional town hall meeting in Stroudsburg Thursday evening where some big concerns were brought front and center.

PennDOT’s reconstruction plan for I-80 was discussed and dozens of members of the community voiced their opinions and hoped to make a change.

The PennDOT believes its reconstruction plan will improve I-80s’ safety and traffic flow, but some lawmakers and residents say the project would cause more headaches than it’s worth.

“We’re an historical district, they’re ruining livelihoods, downtown businesses, and we are going to go under if this project goes through,” said Representative Tarah Probst.

Many of you have heard about the I-80 expansion project over the last few years, as the project moves forward, I believe a factual overview of the project is timely.

Two East Stroudsburg University political science majors and honor students, Montserrat Ramirez-Figueroa of Bloomingdale, N.J. and Alexandra Kossakowska of East Stroudsburg, Pa., presented their research at the Northeastern Political Science Association’s 55th annual meeting held in Boston, Mass. The Conference took place at the Omni Parker Hotel from November 2-4.
