Delaware Water Gap officials respond to oil spill at Hidden Lake, urge proper disposal

DELAWARE WATER GAP (WOLF) —National Park areas with bodies of water allow people to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors and that’s what the Delaware Water Gap aims to achieve for it's visitors. But last week, they received a report of an oil sheen on Hidden Lake near the park headquarters. Now, they're reminding people the park is not an area to change their oil.“Our rangers, Shawnee Fire Company, and the Monroe County Office of Emergency Management responded to the scene. They did observe a sheen on the water and saw that some oil rags had been thrown into the lake,” said Cessna.Dani Cessna, chief of interpretation education and partnerships at the Delaware Water Gap says the ecosystem and environment they are trying to protect can be harmed by the oil.“It is a pollutant that’s being introduced into the environment. You have amphibians who are susceptible to pollutants that can impact them, there are fish in the water,” she said.

Audit the Vote PA; hand counting process demo.

On 6/24/24 Toni Shuppe of Audit the Vote PA, and a group of Patriots gathered in Harrisburg at the state capitol to express concerns with our current election system and the voters lack of confidence in it. The purpose was to highlight the numerous problems with utilizing machines in our elections, the lack of interest by many election officials and to provide a demo of the hand counting process. There are many benefits to hand counting: saves money, it is transparent, get results in one day and increase voter confidence that their vote is accurately counted. In addition, we had 3 elected officials in attendance and who spoke and gave their support: Senator Cris Dush, Representative Mike Jones, and County Commissioner Tom DiBello. Also in attendance was Senator Doug Mastriano, who assisted in making it happen. It was a great day!

AWSOM Animal Clinic To Reopen Next Month

A well-known animal shelter in Monroe County will once again have its own veterinary clinic. AWSOM’s Wellness Center is reopening its doors next month after it closed a little over a year ago. The waiting room is empty now but we’re told the phones and emails haven’t stopped since AWSOM Wellness Center announced it’ll be reopening to the public. AWSOM Animal Shelter General Manager Jackie Fritz says, "It looks like the whole first week is almost already fully booked." It closed the end of April last year due to a personnel work stoppage. The shelter board members were unable to resolve the issues and decided it was best to part ways. Now the low-cost clinic has a completely new staff.
