Stroudsburg woman frustrated over bridge construction

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Plans have been underway to rebuild a bridge in Stroudsburg after being closed for nearly four years. Joan Fitzgerald, a concerned resident said, “It’s been like this for a long time. Too long.” New greenspace coming to a Scranton elementary school Fitzgerald points out that the yard of her Stroudsburg home has been turned into a construction site, as repairs continue on the prolonged Glenbrook Road Bridge. The section of her property along McMichael Creek was cleared of privacy trees two years ago so crews could bring in heavy machinery. “I want answers at this point," said Fitzgerald. Answers that she says she’s been asking for after officials told her the project would be completed last year.

State System of Higher Education Votes to Freeze Tuition for a Seventh Year

The Board of Governors for Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) today voted unanimously to freeze tuition for in-state undergraduate students for the 2024-25 academic year. This is the unprecedented seventh consecutive year the undergraduate tuition rate will remain the same at East Stroudsburg University. The repeated freezes save students nearly 25% in tuition costs compared to the price if tuition had risen at the inflation rate for the last six years. “I believe education should be accessible to everyone, and as the only four-year public university in the region, we know the importance of affordable tuition rates to the ESU community,” said Kenneth Long, President of East Stroudsburg University. “I want to thank Governor Shapiro and the state legislators for their continued investment in public higher education and the PASSHE Board of Governors for recognizing the need to maintain access to affordable higher education at State Universities.”

Commissioner Laverdure spoke about some of Mr. Bolt’s many contributions to the Monroe County community. Also notable, Commissioners voted to award a $513,090.00 contract for parking garage repairs to South Shore Construction, LLC, a company based out of Roselle, New Jersey. When it came time for public comment on non-agenda items, the first speaker was Monroe County Controller, Erik Diemer, who shared his enthusiasm for the Monroe County Conservation District’s annual Bug Fest, which was held this past weekend. Diemer acknowledged that admission was free this year, thanks to a donation from Linda McHugh.
