Sun, 13 Oct 2024 00:00:00 PUBLIC NOTICE Monroe County Transportation Authority PROPOSED FARE INCREASE The Monroe County Transportation Authority (MCTA) has proposed a fare increase for one-way Fixed Route bus tickets from $1.50 including transfers to $2.00 including transfers effective January 1, 2025. Fare capping via bank cards will provide discounted fares for one day ($4), seven-day ($20), and thirty-day ($64) usage. Discounted fares will be available to eligible college/trade school students and persons with disabilities. Children, and students K-12 with valid school issued IDs, may ride for free. Individuals and organizations may comment on the proposed fare increase in writing to MCTA, P.O. Box 339, Scotrun, PA 18355, website at www.gomcta.com/newFares.php, or via email to hyanulus@gomcta.com.

He is not only bridging cultures but also touching lives with his music.
Roy Ramos was raised on rock & roll and radio hits in the bustling streets of Brooklyn, but his music career began with his dad
"The day I was born, he put a guitar in my crib, and at two years old he started teaching me how to play it and I still play that song that he taught me to this day," said Ramos.
"My dad had a love for culture and you know he bestowed it onto me his love of culture," continued Ramos.
Roy eventually found his way to the Poconos, where he made it his home. Hence his nickname Pocono Boy Roy and continued to share his passion for cultural music with the community.
Wright Center takes communicating to the next level
EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — A local community medical center has taken communicating with its patients to the next level.
The Wright Center for Community Health now has two medical assistants who are fluent in Spanish and can interpret for patients who speak the language.
They say the need for interpreting continues to grow by the day in northeastern Pennsylvania.
Anthony Beltran is looking to give his Hispanic and Latino patients a true voice.
He and Lida Kiefer grew up speaking Spanish, and are now bringing their first language to the halls of Scranton's Wright Center for Community Health. But, there's a big difference between being bilingual and being a certified medical interpreter.
"We already speak the language, so why not get certified and be able to do it the correct way?" said Kiefer.
Sharing stories of culture and people
EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — A woman in the Poconos is working to Unite Latino and Hispanic cultures with the surrounding community.
The vice president of the Federation of Latinos for education about the cultures of Hispanic America or Flecha works beyond her role with the non-profit.
"What I do is video interviews, stories with soul, historia con alma right and I'm bringing people stories to the public," said Christina Luna from Cafe with Christina.
The bilingual woman has brought her love of storytelling to the Poconos sharing the stories of Monroe County's Hispanic and Latino communities on her YouTube Channel called Cafe with Christina.
From Barcelona, Spain Luna is able to bridge trust with her interviewees by talking in their native language.
Flecha educates those about cultures of Hispanic America
EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — With a growing Hispanic and Latino population, Monroe County is bustling with businesses that reflect those cultures.
Local non-profit Flecha works to connect the community year-round inspiring success.
"Los morros is a colloquial way in Mexico to refer to kids," said David Cuacuas from Tacos Los Morros.
Inside Tacos Los Morros you'll find a younger crowd at the helm of the kitchen.
"It's me my brother my sister, and my cousin who works here sometimes too, we're all like really young so I thought it was a fitting name," says Cuacuas.
24-year-old David Cuacuas the proud owner of Tacos Los Morros. Opened the family restaurant in May of 2023.
After moving to Stroudsburg, Cuacuas saw a real need for authentic Mexican food.
"We saw an opportunity there and decided let's open a restaurant," stated Cuacuas.
