EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— In the past decade, the number of certified teachers produced by Pennsylvania's education programs has fallen by 75%, and teacher turnover is at an all-time high.

Pennsylvania is facing a statewide teacher shortage with turnover rates at an all time high.

With the crisis continuing to grow, local leaders in education are pushing for change.

The Department of Biology at East Stroudsburg University recently participated in three conferences allowing students to present research they’ve completed during their studies at ESU.

East Stroudsburg University, located in the heart of the Pocono Mountains, is leading the way in environmental stewardship through its Green Campus Initiative, a multifaceted program dedicated to promoting sustainability across campus operations and community engagement.

The initiative encompasses five key groups:

The Frederick Douglass Institute (FDI) Debate Society at East Stroudsburg University took home the top prize at the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education’s (PASSHE) FDI Research and Creative Arts Conference on April 3-4 at PennWest Clarion University.

The East Stroudsburg University Foundation hosted its 16th Annual Scholarship Dinner, SPOTLIGHT, on April 2, 2025, at Terraview at Stroudsmoor Country Inn in Stroudsburg, Pa. Presented by the Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union, the event brought together more than 300 guests, including donors, students, and alumni, to celebrate the life-changing impact of scholarships.

On Tuesday, April 8, students majoring in hospitality, recreation, and tourism management (HRTM) at East Stroudsburg University visited Aramark’s world headquarters in Philadelphia for a firsthand look at the company’s operations and career opportunities.

The students on the trip are currently taking a Foundations of Food and Beverage Management course with Chuck Meitner, Ph.D., assistant professor of HRTM.
