The Eastern Monroe Public Library is hosting a crucial blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross on Saturday, January 18th from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM in the Hughes Library Community Room. This event offers two types of donations: Power Red and Whole Blood. Power Red donations are ideal for individuals with A Neg, B Neg, or O blood types who meet specific eligibility requirements; this type of donation collects red blood cells while returning most of the plasma and platelets to the donor. For those looking to make a more traditional contribution, Whole Blood donations are also available and typically take about an hour to complete.
Donating blood is more important than ever. The Red Cross needs to collect over 13,000 blood donations and more than 2,500 platelet donations daily to meet the needs of patients in over 2,500 hospitals and healthcare facilities nationwide. A staggering 84% of these donations come from blood drives like ours, making your participation vital to ensuring a steady and reliable blood supply.
Appointments are required to donate, so please take a moment to schedule your donation by calling 1-800-RED CROSS or visiting www.redcross.org/rapidpass. By giving blood, you have the power to help save lives and support those in need within our community and beyond.
