Huge Habitat Upgrades
We recently set out to update some of our permits through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and it turns out that since the last time we received approvals a few things have changed! Now we have 45 days to quickly complete huge habitat upgrades for our nine educational ambassador birds. We’re already hard at work and Frank Menyhart, our property manager, is at the helm once again. And this is going to be a big one, a 40-by-16 foot enclosure costing a walloping $25,000!

Marshalls Falls Is Now Open!
At long last, Marshalls Falls Park is open. We are overjoyed with the response the opening garnered. It took the better part of two decades to finally see this park come to fruition. Smithfield Township owes a debt of gratitude to many folks. In 2020, Supervisors Lovenheim and Pride presided over the acquisition of the former Titania house, which allowed for the township to finally obtain the necessary PennDOT permit for the park to open. Construction for the first phase concluded earlier this year and would not have been possible without the acquisition of the house or several grants spearheaded by former Supervisor Barrett. The invaluable support from Congressman Matt Cartwright, former Senator Mario Scavello, Senator Rosemary Brown, and Representative Probst enabled Smithfield to receive grant funds for construction from the PA Departments of Community & Economic Development as well as Conservation & Natural Resources.
