Teacher Feature on Mr Cirillo
What subject or subjects do you teach?
I currently teach Physical Education, Adaptive Physical Education and Health.
What sports do you coach?
Currently, I coach varsity football and varsity track and field. For football, I am the QB’s coach and Offensive Coordinator. For Track and Field, I coach the javelin throwers.
If you could teach another subject what would it be?
I am not sure what other subject I would teach, I was never really crazy about math, science, social studies, English… I took a philosophy of leadership course at ESU and really enjoyed that, so if that were a subject or course that is something I would teach.
What made you want to become a teacher?
Mrs. Escobar: Career Planning and Language Teacher
Introduce yourself:
Hi! I’m Ariette Escobar.
How long have you been teaching?
I have worked in education for over a decade.
How long have you been working for SASD?
Since 2021.
Why did you choose to become a teacher?
My first opportunity to work as a teacher was when I was offered a job teaching English in Japan. Twenty years later I came back to teaching when I learned about an immediate need for a French teacher. I originally came in to help out and ended up really liking the students and staying here.
If not a teacher, what would you do?
I would love to work in International Relations if not a teacher.
Who is your role model?
I try to live my life under Christ, so I would have to say my role model is Jesus.
What’s good life advice to give to a student?

NHS runs another successful Blood Drive
Last week, the National Honors Society (NHS) ran another successful blood drive at Stroudsburg High School.
In total, Stroudsburg students and faculty helped save over 120 lives with 40 successful donations. NHS advisor, Maureen Verwey, stated, “The NHS blood drive was most certainly a success. The drive increases awareness of the importance of donating. For future donors, this can really help.”
One of the main reasons why this drive was so successful was the heavy involvement of the Stroudsburg community. “Without the support of the entire school community, this drive could never be a success,” stated Verwey.
MLB Spring Breakout: What to watch for
Starting tonight, Major League Baseball will begin its second annual prospect showcase, Spring Breakout.
MLB teams prepare rosters of their top prospects and young stars to take on other teams. Last season was the first rendition of this event, with notable names such as 2024 National League Rookie of the Year, Paul Skenes, young Nationals outfielders, James Wood and Dylan Crews, and Orioles second baseman, Jackson Holliday.
Different from last season, these prospects will be playing full nine-inning games, compared to the seven-inning contests of last season. Each MLB team plays at least once, with the Cubs and Nationals featured twice.
Here are some of the top things to look for in this year’s games:

“I’ll Be Alright”
You never know where the talent lies. Sometimes it’s hidden in plain sight like small, suburban Stroudsburg High School. It’s time this talent is recognized beyond our school’s community.
During the “Songs of a Generation” cultural assembly, Tyler Finney, ’25 and Victoria Campbell, ’25, wrote and directed the concert choir, band, and orchestra to an original song titled “I’ll Be Alright,” receiving praise from peers and showcasing the immense talent in the SHS community.
The theme of the assembly was creative expression: music, dance, poetry, and other art forms crossing generations of ethnic culture. By guiding the SHS music department through the performance of an original song written by Finney’s parents, Maria and Micha Finney, he fully embraced the concept showing generations of talent.
