EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Back-to-school is just around the corner. As you prepare for the new school year, 28/22 News has compiled a list of organizations giving away free school supplies for kids in NEPA!
Luzerne County
- United Way backpack and school supplies handout: Wednesday, August 30 starting at 1:00 p.m. at Catholic Social Services Parking lot at Church and Chapel Street in Hazleton.
- Backpack Bash: The Faith Assembly of God Church on 220 Middle Rd., Nanticoke, will host a backpack bash on August 20 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. for children ages 3 to 12. After a short presentation, backpacks will be handed out and there will be food, water games, and more.
- Community Festival Back to School: The Salvation Army in Wilkes-Barre on 17 South Pennsylvania Ave. The event includes free haircuts, food, games, and a school supplies giveaway on August 19 starting at 9:30 a.m.
- Back to School Bash: The Shavertown United Methodist Church on 163 North Pioneer Ave., is hosting a back-to-school bash that includes a clear backpack giveaway with school supplies on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- Church of Christ Uniting Backpack and School Clothes Giveaway: Hosting a backpack and school clothes giveaway. Backpacks will be stuffed with school supplies. A clothing closet and bags of food will also be available. Sunday, August 11, 2024, 3:00 p.m.
- Volunteers of America Operation Backpack Providing a Back-to-school supplies giveaway that will be distributed to children accompanied by an adult while supplies last. Also, offering back-to-school resources. August 16, 2024, 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- United NEPA Alliance Back to School Give-Away: UNA is hosting a Back to School Giveaway. August 24, 2024, Registration starts at 9:00 a.m. School Supply Giveaway: 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Lackawanna County
- Back-to-School Supply Distribution: The Salvation Army Scranton, 500 South Washington Street in Scranton, is hosting a drive-thru school supply distribution event for students who reside in Lackawanna County on September 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Wright Center for Community Health: Provides a Backpack Giveaway at various Wright Center Primary Practice locations. Backpacks include school supplies. Distribution while limited supply lasts.
- Scranton School District Back to School Fair: Offering backpack and school supply giveaway. Also, offering free haircuts and community resources. August 19, 2024, 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Lackawanna County Library System Valley Community Library - Back to School Event: Partnering with The Wright Center for Community Health to hold a backpack giveaway, on-site vaccinations, physicals, free resources for parents, and a free lunch for kids. VCL and WCCH are hosting this health initiative to ensure children stay on track with timely vaccinations and physicals. August 13, 2024, 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Located at 739 River Street Peckville, PA 18452.
Monroe County
- Backpack and School Supplies: Angels and Dragonflies Children’s Charity in Stroudsburg and the First Baptist Church of East Stroudsburg will give away backpacks and school supplies in the parking lot of the church at 160 North Courtland Street from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. on August 19.
- Backpack Drive: The Living Hope Baptist Church, 4326 Cherry Lane Church Rd., Tannersville, will provide backpacks stuffed with school supplies for students in grades K-4 on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Wright Center for Community Health: Providing a Backpack Giveaway at various Wright Center Primary Practice locations. Backpacks include school supplies.
Distribution while limited supply lasts. - Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network Sciota - Back to School Extravaganza: Provides a program that helps students prepare for the upcoming school year by supplying new back-to-school items at no cost. Students will receive backpacks, school supplies, sneakers, underwear, personal care items, and school uniforms (available only for school districts with a current uniform policy). Residents of Chestnuthill, Eldred, Hamilton, Jackson, Ross, and Polktownships in Monroe County. Recipients must meet certain household
income restrictions for aid. By appointment only.
Wyoming County
- Interfaith Friends Wyoming County Back to School Shoe Program: Hosts a back-to-school shoe program in conjunction with the Wyoming County United Way. Eligible school-aged children will receive a new pair of sneakers for the start of the school year. Wyoming County students only. The family must meet income eligibility requirements. Northumberland County
- Back to School Haircut and Backpack Bash: Crossroads Nazarene Church on 456 King Street, Milton, will provide backpacks, school supplies, and haircuts for students on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Back to School Goodie Bag Giveaway: The Milton Public Library on 541 Broadway Street, Milton, is offering a back-to-school goodie bag giveaway for students in need of school supplies on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4;00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Union County
- Bring Your Own Backpack School Supply Giveaway: The McCann School of Business and Technology on 7495 Westbranch Hwy., Lewisburg, invites students to bring their backpacks to campus on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. so they can be filled with needed school supplies.
