NHS runs another successful Blood Drive

Last week, the National Honors Society (NHS) ran another successful blood drive at Stroudsburg High School.

In total, Stroudsburg students and faculty helped save over 120 lives with 40 successful donations. NHS advisor, Maureen Verwey, stated, “The NHS blood drive was most certainly a success. The drive increases awareness of the importance of donating. For future donors, this can really help.”

One of the main reasons why this drive was so successful was the heavy involvement of the Stroudsburg community. “Without the support of the entire school community, this drive could never be a success,” stated Verwey.

One of the defining factors of the blood drive was the promotion. “Mr. Sodl is quick to help promote the drive through all forms of communications that we request, from morning announcements to the big screens to sending the ‘Donate Blood’ Club video to teachers, to Mountie Minutes. Which brings us to the fantastic job that Mrs. Cepin and the Mountie Minutes crew did while promoting the drive,” praised Verwey.

The organization of this event has many complexities. From the donors to the custodians helping with set-up and clean-up, to teachers allowing students to miss classes to volunteer and/or donate, to the physical education and science departments for allowing NHS members to give presentations in their classes. Without the whole school community coming together, this would not be possible.

Stroudsburg will hold another blood drive during the 2025-26 school year with an official date to be determined.
