LONG POND, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — There was a lot of excitement in Long Pond on Saturday from racers and fans alike. While the coveted Cup Series race is on Sunday, the Xfinity Series race kicked off Saturday afternoon.
While the race is now over, the energy in Long Pond was still absolutely electric. It was hard to describe the atmosphere in the infield, and even with the race wrapped up, people here are ready to do it all again tomorrow.
38 drivers lined up Saturday afternoon to take on the Tricky Triangle yet again.
The smell of burnt rubber filled the air, and the sound of engines roaring down the straightaways made this spectacle of speed one to remember.
While it's hard to imagine what exactly was going through the racers' heads on the track, fans 28/22 News spoke to could hardly contain their excitement as the drivers made their way through the turns.
How to watch Pocono Raceway NASCAR races"Awe man, it's amazing. You feel it, you feel it in your chest, you hear it, it's just- you feel the wind as they drive by. It's- like I said, it's one of a kind, Pocono, and it's different. There's no other place like this. Walt Disney World, you think is good? Nah, you need to go to Pocono," Mark Bostrom from New Jersey told 28/22 News.
"There's the most amount of people I've ever seen here. It's incredible the amount of people that showed up. If you were to show the camera the flags and the people on top of the campers are just, it's something memorable. You know, it's incredible," New Jersey resident Justin Sigler said.
It's absolutely something to remember.
More recaps of the day are coming up in later editions of 28/22 News.
