Bids are in for Boy Scouts’ Camp Trexler. Land trust, Waste Management among those interested

The fate of the Trexler Scout Reservation is still in the air, but organizations have been putting together bids to take over the 755-acre piece of nature in Polk Township.

One of them is the Pocono Heritage Land Trust, which recently submitted a bid for the Boy Scout camp, which has a history stretching back more than 90 years. Executive Director Louise Troutman was limited in what she could say because of a non-disclosure agreement, but was worried about potential competition for Camp Trexler.

“I can tell you that we did submit a bid, and that we are concerned that there might be a bidding war,” Troutman said on Wednesday. “So we’re continuing to raise money so that we can hopefully continue to be a viable bid.”

Troutman said she thinks there are less than 10 bidders, who had to submit them by March 24, and the winner may be decided as early as next week.

Bipartisan Pa. bill would authorize community solar projects | Monday Morning Coffee

A bipartisan proposal now making the rounds of the General Assembly would allow Pennsylvania to join the company of 22 other states that allow “community solar” projects that backers say “would enable access to solar energy for all Pennsylvanians,” regardless of whether they can install solar panel on their roofs or not.

“Rising costs and energy bills are very real here in Pennsylvania, and we must help find creative solutions to maintain reasonable utility costs,” Sen. Rosemary Brown, R-Monroe, the prime sponsor of the Senate version of the proposal, said in a statement.

“Community solar will include another option to further develop a diverse energy portfolio in Pennsylvania, leading us to a brighter and cost-efficient energy future,” Brown continued, adding that “creating a market for additional electricity options is a way to keep consumer costs down.”

Fetterman leaves Walter Reed with depression 'in remission'

Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman has left Walter Reed National Military Medical Center after six weeks of inpatient treatment for clinical depression, with plans to return to the Senate in mid-April. In a statement, Fetterman’s office said Friday that he's back home in Pennsylvania, with his depression “in remission.” It says his depression was treated with medication and he's wearing hearing aids for hearing loss. Fetterman checked into Walter Reed after weeks of what aides described as Fetterman being withdrawn and uninterested in eating or talking. The 53-year-old Fetterman is still recovering from the aftereffects of the stroke he suffered last May. Doctors say post-stroke depression is common and treatable.

Amtrak Study Examines Scranton – New York Corridor

SCRANTON, Pa. – Amtrak and the Pennsylvania Northeast Regional Railroad Authority (PNRRA) have
released the findings of a two-year analysis examining the potential for rail service between
Scranton and New York. The study included operations planning to develop a sample schedule,
ridership estimates, economic impacts and an infrastructure assessment for the Pennsylvania
segment. The infrastructure assessment estimates costs to upgrade track to accommodate passenger
trains along 60 route miles owned by PNRRA between Scranton and the Delaware Water Gap.
“Passenger rail service in and out of Scranton was discontinued in 1970, only one year before
Amtrak was created,” said Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner. “Restoring and expanding this corridor with
daily multi-frequency service would dramatically boost mobility and economic development for
residents of Scranton and Northeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York
and the broader Northeast region.”
