Ms. Voytko and her classes are willing to share some of their favorite recipes with us, yay! We’ll add a new recipe each week from one of  Ms. Voytko’s Discovering Foods, Foreign Foods, and American Foods classes. We look forward to more pictures and demos.      A new teacher at the Junior High school, Ms.Steele, received her first-ever Christmas gift from a student! She teaches English and her room is known for its Christmas spirit. Ms. Steele was so excited when she received this Christmas ornament so she immediately hung it up. 

     Let’s give a big thanks to Rayniel Estevez for giving Ms. Steele a warm welcome to her first Holiday season at the Junior High School! We are lucky to have Ms.Steele as a part of our district! 

On Nov. 30, 2023, 35 students were awarded Most Improved for the first marking period. The award included a certificate from the teacher it was from plus, Mr. Larthey handed out a special Mountaineers pencil and one free personal dress down for any day of the week. These awards are given out each marking period, so we all have more opportunities. Keep improving, SJHS!

MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A section of Interstate 80 West is closed after a tractor-trailer overturned early Friday morning.

According to a release from Pennsylvania State Police, the crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. on I-80 East near mile marker 305.5.

Police say the tractor-trailer was carrying lime, which spilled onto the roadway, necessitating the closure of both lanes.

While the eastbound lane of I-80 has reopened, the westbound lane is closed for roughly one mile as of 8:55 a.m.

There were no reported injuries.

At which school in the district do you teach?
I teach at Stroudsburg High School.

What subject(s) do you teach?
Biology and Physical Science this year, but I have also taught Anatomy and Physiology and Ecology.

What grade(s) do you teach?
Primarily 10th grade, but I have all grade levels in my Physical Science class.

How long have you been teaching at SASD?
This is my 4th year.

What is your favorite part about teaching?
My favorite part about teaching is without question, my students. I love being with teenagers and helping them navigate this time period in their lives. It is so important for teenagers to have loving, caring adults who hold them to high standards during this transition into adulthood.

Some public libraries are forced to make tough decisions due to the state budget stalemate.

While the Pennsylvania budget passed earlier this year, lawmakers remain gridlocked over certain parts.

The dispute over taxpayer-funded school vouchers is now hurting key programs like libraries.

Some libraries in our area are being forced to cut back on services.

Lawmakers are not due back in Harrisburg until the second week of December and library directors are just left in limbo not knowing if they’ll receive their state aid on time.

Signs are posted all over the Pocono Mountain Public Library in Coolbaugh Township asking for legislative action.
