Madden supports Swift Era
During passionate House floor debate on Dec. 13, which just so happens to be the birthday of both state Rep. Maureen Madden, D-Monroe, and international superstar/PA native Taylor Swift, Madden supported the resolution to recognize 2023 as the "Taylor Swift Era" in Pennsylvania. Swift, she said, isn't just about writing breakup songs. She's speaking and working on issues that matter to younger generations, like a woman's right to choose, saving our environment, and getting people registered to vote.

Brown Successfully Enacts Mental Health Study
This week, I worked with Senate leadership to expand language in House Bill 1300 to direct a study on Pennsylvania’s suicide and crisis hotline. As chair of the Mental Health caucus and from conversations with constituents, Fe and Gareth Hall, we successfully enacted this proposal. The Halls unfortunately lost their son – Christian Hall – to a mental health crisis on Dec. 30th, 2020.

Brown Successfully Enacts Mental Health Study
HARRISBURG – Sen. Rosemary Brown (R-40) successfully advocated and strengthened language in House Bill 1300 to direct the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to conduct a study on Pennsylvania’s 988 suicide and crisis hotline.
The initiative was prompted by Brown’s mental health caucus and conversations with Fe and Gareth Hall, Brown’s constituents. The Halls unfortunately lost their son – Christian Hall – to a mental health crisis on Dec. 30, 2020.
“This is the first step to ensure the effectiveness of our state’s suicide and crisis hotline, particularly its interoperability into our current 911 system,” said Brown. “A thorough review of its operation is necessary and important to our work as policymakers as we work to build mental health services across our state. I thank my Senate Republican leadership for working with me on my suggested language and strengthening the parameters.”

ESU Celebrates Holidays by Giving Back
On Wednesday, December 13 East Stroudsburg University faculty and staff gathered to celebrate the end of the semester and the holiday season with luncheon.
Those in attendance brought donations for the Warrior Food Pantry.
Along with donations of non-perishable food items, faculty and staff collectively donated $1,850 in gift cards to local grocery stores.
The Warrior Food Pantry is a self-service pantry that allows students to obtain the necessary food to support their well-being.
The pantry is housed at St. Matthew’s Church, and is open to exclusively to ESU students each Tuesday during academic semesters from 2-4 p.m.
SHS Boys’ Basketball team bounces back
Last Friday, the SHS Boys’ Basketball team suffered a devasting loss at the hands of our rivals East Stroudsburg South High School as South junior guard Jaen Chatman hit a buzzer-beating three to give South the 51-48 victory. This dropped Stroudsburg to 1-3 on the season. With their backs against the wall, they had to bounce back.
Before the game on Tuesday, head coach Tarik El-Bassiouni explained their plan to bounce back. Coach El-Bassiouni plainly stated, “We have no other choice…it doesn’t help anyone to dwell on what happened on Friday.” He also clarified that the team has to learn from their mistakes.
To hear the full interview with Coach El-Bassiouni, check out the Mountaineer Athletics Podcast on YouTube.
Coming out of the gates early against Easton, the Mountaineers took an early 5-0 lead 30 seconds into the game. That would be the last points they would score until the middle of the second quarter as Easton went on a 20-0 run to lead 20-5.
