MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An investigation is underway after Monroe County officials say scammers are impersonating the sheriff's office.
District Attorney Mike Mancuso is warning that county offices have received multiple tips from residents reporting to have received calls from persons claiming to be from the sheriff's office.
Officials say the scammers try to fool residents by claiming that an arrest warrant has been issued for failing to appear for jury duty.
Former trooper accused of fatal shooting ‘over a girl’The scammers then offer to dismiss the warrant if the victim pays money. The payment is most often asked to be through gift card purchases.
