East Stroudsburg University Announces Spring Concert Schedule

The Department of Theatre at East Stroudsburg University announces its spring concert series, featuring three musical performances. All events will take place in the Celia S. Cohen Recital Hall in the University’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, located at Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg and are free to the public.

Concert Schedule:

  • Thursday, April 17, 7:30 p.m. – Concert Choir: Sing! Spring: An entire concert centered around the idea of singing, from modern choral masterpieces by Eric Whitacre and classical madrigals to musical selections from Chorus Line and Sweeney Todd, all in time for Spring.
  • Friday, April 25, 7:30 p.m. – Jazz Band: Latin Jazz: From Argentina to Cuba, the ESU Jazz Band goes on tour through the musical traditions of jazz from Latin America. Featuring classics such as Salt Peanuts and Black Orpheus to modern interpretations like Mambo Swing (originally by the Big Bad Voodoo Daddies) and Despacito. There will be a collaboration on the classic La Virgen de la Macarena with the ESU Animation Studio featuring the debut of an all-original screen work, the likes of an ESU version of Fantasia!
  • Sunday, April 27, 3:30 p.m. – Concert Band: Patriotism?: The ESU Concert Band will explore themes of patriotism through music, from Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait featuring quotations by Lincoln (narrated by special guest Dr. Jason Narvy) to the finale from Shostakovich Symphony no. 5. The ESU Choir will also join for a presentation of selected movements from Randall Thompson’s masterpiece “Testament of Freedom”, with text taken from the letters of Thomas Jefferson.
