Seven East Stroudsburg University students, who took Teaching of Communications during the spring 2023 semester after serving as “buddies” to German preservice teaching students who were on ESU’s campus during the fall 2022 semester, participated in a two-and-a-half-week field experience through the University of Landau-Konblenz in Landau in der Pfalz, Germany.
Parker Beiler, a junior history major with a concentration in secondary education from Saylorsburg, Pa.; Amber Cohen, a 2023 graduate who majored middle level education from Palmerton, Pa.; Erin Guilfoyle, a senior biology major with a concentration in secondary education from Point Pleasant Boro, N.J.; Joclyn Irons, a junior special and early childhood education major from Dingmans Ferry, Pa.; Jared Johnson, a senior middle level education major from Effort, Pa.; Piper Langan, a 2023 graduate who majored in middle level education from Cresco, Pa.; and James P. Schupp, a senior special and early childhood education major from Easton, Pa.; spent time in German classrooms working with students at varying grades and levels of English fluency. They were placed in four different types of German educational institutions: academic high school, comprehensive middle school, vocational school, and an inclusive elementary school.
Brooke Langan, Ed.D., dean of ESU’s College of Education and Laura Kieselbach, Ed.D., assistant professor of English accompanied the students on the experience from May 9 – 25. The students and professors will present their comparative findings during a Fall 2023 Provost’s Colloquium Series.
