EAST STROUDSBURG, MORNOE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Veterans Day is Monday, November 11 and we are highlighting one of the many organizations that honors those who have served in the United States Military.

Promoting Americanism and fellowship among veterans, that is the goal of the American Legion George N Kemp Post 346 in East Stroudsburg.

“We’re always looking for people that need our help,” continued William Groome, U.S. Navy veteran/American Legion adjutant, “something simple as just food to help somebody. It could be oil to help heat their home. We’re always active with the youth of the community.”

The post is one of five in Monroe County alone, with more than 200,000 members across all of the keystone state.

“It’s an opportunity to remember that there are individuals out there who put the nation first, who put their state, their communities, and their families first by serving in the United States Military,” said David Siegle, ret. U.S. Army veteran/sr. Vice Commander Monroe Co District 30.

You do not have to be a veteran to join the global non-profit.

“If your fathers, grandfathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, have served, you can join the different branches of the American Legion as well,” said Tara Fuls, U.S. Army Reserve veteran/American Legion Post 346 Commander.

Working to benefit those in their community all year round the spotlight is now put on the post ahead of Veterans Day Monday.

A celebration will be held Saturday, November 9 in the afternoon at its location on Fifth Street where vets can take part in the ‘wills for heroes’ program.

“It’s an event in which we prepare State planning documents for veterans and first responders at absolutely no charge. That includes wills, powers of attorney, living wills. Making sure they have all their estate planning needs met,” said Patrick Best, board of director, Monroe County Bar Association.

Hoping to give back to those who have served the non-profit is a symbol of unwavering dedication to service.

“I came unknowingly. I didn’t realize that it would become such a big part of my life,” said Fuls.

The event happening Saturday, November 9 at the American Legion Post 346 in East Stroudsburg is also honoring one of its longest members George for turning 97 years old! Happy birthday from all of us here at 28/22 news.
