The investigation into the homicidal shooting at a short term rental in Emerald Lakes on January 12, 2025 continues.
Last month seven defendants, all charged with crimes stemming from evidence found at the scene and during the investigation into the murder of Lionardo HERNANDEZ ZARATA, were brought to the Monroe County Courthouse for preliminary hearings. The cases are being prosecuted by myself and First Assistant Mike Rak. The lead investigators are Detectives Erica Burk and Kyle VanNote.
Judge Richard White presided over the proceedings. The defendants faced a variety of charges. Some charged with narcotics offenses.
Others faced burglary charges. Some others faced Hindering the Apprehension charges. Several defendants entered guilty pleas before Judge White. Others waived the charges to the Court of Common Pleas. One defendant had a preliminary hearing. Her charges were bound over.
All the defendants were returned to the correctional facility where they have ICE Detainers lodged against them. All defendants are Venezuelan nationals.
They are Angel Gustavo PAEZ SEQUERA, Heymar Del Ciblo PADILLA MOYETONES, Isaac OZUNA CARABALLO, Johangel FARFAN PEREZ, Yanny Scarlet SUAREZ RODRIGUEZ, Fraimar VITA GRIMAR, and Victor CALDERA MALPICA.
None of these defendants are suspects in the homicide investigation. Much progress has been made into the murder of Mr. Lionardo Hernandez Zarata and an announcement will be made soon.
