Chaasad-Yah Weldon

Where are you from?

I’m from Brooklyn, New York and moved to Stroudsburg when I was five.

What is 1 fun fact about yourself? (2-3 sentences)

My name is Hebrew for God’s Mercy. ¨Chaasad¨ means Mercy, and “-Yah” means god.

What are your future plans after high school?

I want to attend F.I.T (Fashion Institution of Technology) while minoring in business/entrepreneurship to become a fashion designer and business mogul.

What is your passion in life

A passion of mine is sewing and creating new ways to improve the fashion industry, making it more inclusive so people can feel seen. I do this through my fashion design sketches. There aren’t a lot of black women in this industry, so I want to be an influential black woman that little black girls can look up to.

What is your greatest accomplishment so far?

Honestly I am currently happy with where I am now and I’m excited to see what I accomplish in the future. What social stigma does society need to get over? We need to grow as a society when it comes to topics of racism and colorism.

What is your favorite class in SHS?

I love French II with Madame Verewey.

Who are your favorite teachers and why?

I love Miss Vail. She is so sweet, easy to talk to, and relatable. I feel like I can talk to her about anything going on and my feelings are heard; without feeling judged for it.
