Known best as Miss Jessica by high school students, this lunch monitor will be sorely missed by many. She greeted students with a motherly and welcoming smile. She offered positive words of encouragement and treated students with respect. In return, students treated her and other lunch monitors the same way. Although Miss Jessica has only worked at the high school for three years, she made quite an impression on many. Students from all lunches came together to say goodbye but also to wish her well on her new job at MCTI. Friday, December 22, marked her final day here at the SHS cafeteria.

Anthony Borrero, 11, shared how it all started, “The time when my best friend went cyber and she made sure I was ok every day my sophomore year because I didn’t know anyone in that lunch or any time we had our deep talks where advice was exchanged. Definitely her last day as well because she made us this Portuguese dish and it was amazing, plus she disclosed her heartfelt goodbye after taking a group picture.” Students were asked about their favorite memories.

Josias Santos shared,  “When she heated up my empanadas.”

Jasmine Richards,11, added,  “When I first met her she was really nice to me.” Likewise, Keilyn Tejeda,11, agreed, “Coming to lunch every day and getting someone to talk to and hug and just be a mother figure in school.”

Gianna Gregorie, 12, said, “The time that I got into an argument with someone, and she stopped the situation to de-escalate it and not cause any trouble.”

Jorge Cruz,12, said,  “Honestly bro, there’s too many, she’s just a great person, word.”

Borrero asked Miss Jessica her favorite part of working here, she said, “Just waking up and coming in and being with the kids every day. They make me smile, they make me laugh, funny jokes, and they just make my day.”
