OPERATING HOURS OF TWIN BOROUGHS RECYCLE DROP OFF CENTER: 
Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 3:00 pm
Saturday 8:00 am to 11:30 am
The Recycling Center will be closed on the following dates in 2023:

January 2; January 16; February 20; May 29; July 4; September 4; October 9; November 10; November 11; November 23; November 24; December 22 (closing @ 11 am); December 23; December 25

Recycling Center is open to Borough residents ONLY.  Proof of residency required.
The Twin Boroughs Recycling Center is conveniently located off Lincoln Avenue just south of Interstate 80. From Brown Street, take Lincoln Avenue, past WalMart, and make a right into the Recycling Center.  From Prospect Street (at I-80 Exit 308), take Forge Road and make a left into the Recycling Center.

  • Place recyclables at curbside the night before your scheduled collection.  If the recyclables are not out on time, they will most likely not be picked up until the next scheduled date.
  • Use a separate bucket for each commodity; DO NOT single stream or comingle recyclables.  If items are not separated, they will be tagged and not collected.
  • Rinse food and liquids from ALL bottles, jars, and cans thoroughly.  Contaminated materials will be tagged and not be collected.  
  • DO NOT include lightbulbs, ceramic glass, mirrors, items made of clay or laminated glass.  DO NOT break glass before placing in pails.
  • NO black plastic of any kind!  NO plastic bagsNO motor oil containersNO medical waste (i.e. plastic bed pans, CPAP masks or hoses, needles, EpiPens).
  • Clear bags can be used to put excess plastics out for collection.  Clear bags ONLY
  • Keep your recycling pails in a convenient location, making it easier to recycle!

Items for curbside collection are listed below.  These items can also be taken to the recycling center at 336 Lincoln Avenue (behind Walmart) during their normal business hours.  Other items accepted only at the recycling center are: tin/steel cans, Styrofoam peanuts, computer devices, televisions, and used motor oil.

ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED AT CURBSIDE OR RECYCLING CENTER: NO Plastic bags, plastic pails, plastic toys, clothes hangers, motor oil bottles, Styrofoam egg containers, ice cream or paper milk containers, dog/cat food bags with plastic liners.

Recyclable items MUST be sorted properly and rinsed thoroughly for collection.  Place each commodity in its own bucket.  Use any containers for your recyclables, or call us to request recycling buckets. No black plastics, or plastic bags! 

ITEMS ACCEPTED AT CURBSIDE COLLECTION

  • NEWSPAPERS-MAGAZINES-PAPER-PAPERBOARD

Place newspapers in brown paper bags, cardboard box, bundle with twine/string (do not tape together or use plastic bags).  Combine magazines and junk mail (glossy postcards and advertisements) in box, paper bag, or bundle with twine/string.  Combine regular paper, paperboard (paperboard is glossy boxes, i.e. cereal, crackers, frozen food boxes, NO container that contained liquid), and brown paper egg cartons (not Styrofoam) in box or brown bag.

  • CORRUGATED CARDBOARD

Break down and bundle corrugated cardboard separately with twine/string (corrugated cardboard is heavier with “lasagna noodle” looking middle).

  • GLASS JARS AND BOTTLES

Sort bottles by color (brown, clear, and green).  Rinse all containers, labels may be left on.  No windowpane, blue bottles, ceramics, or lightbulbs.

  • PLASTIC BOTTLES AND TUBS

Only rinsed Number 1-7 plastic bottle and tubs (i.e. soda bottles, milk and water jugs, detergent bottles, butter tubs, yogurt containers).  NO BLACK PLASTIC OR PLASTIC BAGS ARE ACCEPTED!  Rinse all containers, remove but include the caps, and crush to save space.  Plastics need to be free of contamination in order to be recycled properly.  Please clean plastics so we can continue to take them! DO NOT put plastics in black garbage bags for collection!!  Only clear bags should be used for excess plastics. 

  • ALUMINUM CANS AND FOIL

Rinse and flatten aluminum cans.  Do not mix with tin/steel cans.  If a magnet does not stick to it, it’s aluminum (i.e. soda cans, some cat food cans)

  • TIN AND STEEL CANS

Rinse cans thoroughly, Do not mix with aluminum.  If a magnet sticks to the can, it’s tin/steel (i.e. canned soups, vegetables/fruit, some cat food cans). 

The above items can also be taken to the recycling center during their normal business hours.  Other items accepted only at the recycling center are Styrofoam peanuts, computer devices and smart phones, televisions, and used motor oil. 

DISPOSAL OF ELECTRONICS
Please be advised that disposal of electronics curbside for weekly trash pickup is prohibited. These materials should be disposed of at the Twin Borough Recycling Center located on Lincoln Avenue. Electronics include televisions, computers and accessories. 

COMMERCIAL/INSTITUTIONAL/MUNICIPAL FACILITIES

Persons must separate high-grade office paper, aluminum, corrugated paper and such other materials as may be designated by the Borough generated at commercial, municipal and institutional establishments and from community activities and store the recyclable materials until collection. A person may be exempted from this subsection if that person submits documentation to the Borough annually indicating that the designated recyclable materials are being recycled in an appropriate manner.

If recyclable materials are collected by a collector other than the Borough or its authorized agent, the collector shall provide the occupants of said establishments with the tonnage of materials recycled during the previous year. Occupants shall then submit an annual report to the Borough reporting the tonnage of materials recycled during the previous year.
