PUBLIC NOTICE Renewal of NPDES Permit Number PA0226033 for Non-Coal Surface Mining Permit #5278SM4 + 52970301 South Sterling Quarry Operation Greene Township Pike County Pursuant to the Noncoal Surface Mining Conservation and Reclamation Act and the CleanStreams Law, notice is hereby given that Pocono Sand & Stone, LLC, which operates at 540 South Sterling Road, South Sterling, PA 18460 has made application to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP) to renew its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit No. PA0226033 associated with noncoal surface mining activities at the South Sterling Quarry (Surface Mine Permit #'s 5278SM4 & 52970301, encompassing 172.56 acres) in Greene Township, Pike County. The receiving stream for the NPDES discharge point is the Wallenpaupack Creek, which is designated as High-Quality Cold-Water Fishes (HQ-CWF) and Migratory Fishes (MF) in 25 Pa Code Chapter 93. No changes to the discharge are being proposed. The quarry is located off State Route 191, approximately 1.0 mile north of Pine Grove Rd. with center coordinates of 41° 16' 42.47 N and 75° 19' 48.85 W. The Newfoundland, PA US Geological Survey 7.5-minute topographic map contains the area described. A copy of the application is available for public inspection at the Greene Township Office, 198 Bring Hill Road, Greentown, PA 18426. Written comments, objections, or requests for a public meeting or informal conference should be submitted to DEP Pottsville District Mining Office, 5 West Laurel Blvd., PA 17901 by 1/7/24.
