PUBLIC NOTICE OF INTENTION TO ENACT PROPOSED ORDINANCE TAKE NOTICE that the Board of Supervisors of Barrett Township intends to consider adopting a proposed ordinance at its regular meeting on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, beginning at 5:30 P.M., at the Barrett Administrative and Recreational Complex, 1200 Route 390, Cresco, PA 18326. If approved, the proposed ordinance would amend Part II (General Legislation) of the Barrett Township Code of Ordinances to add a new chapter 370 entitled “Peace and Good Order,” which contains regulations prohibiting disturbances of the peace. At the meeting, the Supervisors will listen to comments by members of the public concerning the proposed ordinance. If substantial amendments are not offered to the draft of the proposed ordinance, the Supervisors intend to consider enactment of the proposed ordinance immediately thereafter at the meeting. The proposed ordinance is entitled: AN ORDINANCE OF BARRETT TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, AMENDING PART II (GENERAL LEGISLATION) OF ITS CODE OF ORDINANCES BY ADDING A NEW CHAPTER 370 ENTITLED “PEACE AND GOOD ORDER” TO PROVIDE FOR REGULATIONS PROHIBITING DISTURBANCES OF THE PEACE. The following is a brief summary of all of the provisions of the proposed ordinance: Article 1 contains a short title (Section 101), legal authority for the ordinance (Section 102), the legislative intent and purpose of the ordinance (Section 103) and provisions regarding legal conflicts (Section 104). Article 2 amends Part II (General Legislation) by adding Chapter 370 (Peace and Good Order) to Part II (General Legislation), which contains a title (§ 370-1), regulations prohibiting certain listed disturbances of the peace (§ 370-2), and provisions for violations, penalties, and enforcement (§ 370-3). Article 3 provides for the ordinance to be effective 5 days after its enactment (Section 301). A copy of the proposed ordinance will be posted on the Township’s website and also has been supplied to the Pocono Record. Anyone may inspect the proposed ordinance (without charge) or obtain a copy of it (for a charge not exceeding actual copying costs) at the Township’s office at the address listed above during regular business hours.
