PAWC Summit Point PFAS Treatment Improvements Categorical Exclusion Request Notice is hereby given that Pennsylvania American Water Company (PAWC) is planning to perform per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) treatment improvements at the Summit Pointwell station, located near the intersection of Pocono Road and Mountain Drive in Mt. Pocono, PA. The primary driver of the Summit Point PFAS Treatment Improvements Project is to ensure compliance with current and future US Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) for PFAS. This Project's scope includes the demolition of the existing wellhouse and construction of a new treatment facility at the existing Summit Point well station, as well as disposal of process wastewater, and other related work. The new treatment facility will include GAC adsorbers for the removal of PFAS, and green sand filters will be added to comply with secondary MCLs associated with iron and manganese. Further chemical feed system improvements to help meet these requirements include sodium hypochlorite for oxidation and disinfection, sodium hydroxide for pH adjustment, and polymer to assist with manganese and iron settling in the backwash waste tank, and zinc orthophosphate for corrosion control. No new customers will be added as a result of this project. PAWC is applying for grants and low interest loans through PENNVEST. Any impact on customer rates will be determined in accordance with PAWC's Tariff and the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission. The project is being considered for an environmental review categorical exclusion from the State Environmental Review Process. PAWC does not anticipate significant impact on user fees as a result of this project.
