East Stroudsburg University’s Provost’s Colloquium Series, an intellectual experience that promotes dialogue among ESU faculty, staff, students, and community, continues during the Spring 2024 semester with a presentation by Xue Dong, assistant professor of art + media + design and Carol Dimopoulos, Ed.D., assistant professor of business management. “Empower Entrepreneurial Mindset Through Co-Design Curriculum” will take place on Wednesday, March 13, at 5:30 p.m. in Beers Lecture Hall. The presentation will also be live streamed on the ESU Live Events webpage.
Applying entrepreneurship and design thinking in a collaborative, interdisciplinary learning environment promotes divergent and transformative thinking. Dong and Dr. Dimopoulos will discuss why education must move towards interactive and active learning. To respond to the increasing complexity of business and solve complex problems, designers and entrepreneurs must possess essential strategic thinking skills. Achieving success as an entrepreneur necessitates elevated strategic thinking, a growth-focused business mindset, and a holistic view. The presenters will share how they reframed the individual course to the co-collaborative learning experience via visual presentation and experiential learning opportunities. The presentation will include original research and examples of how design thinking encourages new pathways of thinking by developing the tools to create actionable solutions from open-ended concepts.
Empathy plays an integral role in collaborative education as it humanizes everyone’s unique attributes and talents. The interactive presentation will include discussions with a panel of students who have participated in the co-collaborative study. The application methods will be discussed, as well as qualitative outcomes from the student’s perspective.
