One man dead after fatal hit and run in Monroe County

TOBYHANNA, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE,WYOU)— One man is dead after a fatal hit and run on Friday night.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department stated that 26-year-old Anthony Rodriguez, of Mount Pocono, died after being struck by a car while riding on his motorcycle.

Police say they were dispatched just before 11:00 p.m. to the intersection of Memorial Boulevard and Cayuga Drive for a serious vehicle crash.

Bystanders say a vehicle struck a motorcycle and then fled the scene.

Valve issue caused road closure in Scranton

An initial investigation revealed that Rodriguez was traveling north on State Route 611, and the suspect, who was traveling in a 2015-2017 Toyota Camry, was traveling south.

The suspect crossed into the northbound lane to turn left causing a collision and fatal injuries to Rodriguez.

The suspect then fled the scene traveling through the Pocono Farms Development and onto Route 196 northbound where it was last seen.

The vehicle suffered heavy frontend damage, including the loss of its grille, a headlight assembly, and pieces of its front bumper.
