Officials say Jackson Township gas leak contained, stopped

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Monroe County authorities say residents can return home after crews tackled a gas leak in Jackson Township Sunday night.

At 8:45 p.m., officials say the Jackson Township Fire Company, the Pocono Township Fire Company, and additional crews were called to Modern Gas Sales at the intersection of Route 715 and Possinger Drive in Jackson Township, Monroe County for a reported gas leak.

Monroe County Office of Emergency Management Director Maryellen Keegan told 28/22 News residents within half a mile of the incident were highly encouraged to evacuate.

Keegan told 28/22 News the gas leak had been contained and stopped shortly before 11:30 p.m. Sunday night.

Residents who evacuated can return home and if anyone in the area smells gas, they are advised by officials to call 911.

So far, authorities are saying there are no reported injuries.
