Nathan Strunk Letter to Rosemary Brown (PMSD Board Director)

Letter

As a community, we have repeatedly voiced our concerns and requests regarding the urgent need for education funding reform and Cyber Charter reform. The Pocono Mountain School District Board of Education has, time and, time again, unanimously and bipartisanly passed resolutions calling for our state officials to take action. Every board since 2012 has been calling for this same exact legislation.

The Basic Education Funding commission's report on HB2370 shows that Pocono Mountain stands to gain a 20% increase in BEF contributions, a one-time equity payment of $6,000,000, and nearly $7,500,000 in annual savings from Cyber Charter reform. With this money, we can not only roll back property taxes to pre-COVID levels but also lower them even further.

Senator Rosemary Brown, our board and community have been waiting many years for a genuine and productive response from you. We have traveled long distances to meet with you, both in Harrisburg, and at your regional offices and, we've invited you to our schools to discuss the challenges we face in our region. It is incredibly rare in today’s politically charged climate to see such unanimous agreement on an issue, which underscores the critical importance of this matter.

This is not a wish list item, a personal benefit, or a political promise. This is the thing every one of your school districts and their communities have been begging for for years and its finally a reality. It impacts every one of our students, staff, taxpayers, and community members. We urge you to take immediate and decisive action to support the reform and funding our district desperately needs.

Lastly, at last evenings Pocono Mountain School District Board of Education meeting our members penned a unanimous joint letter calling for your support on HB2370.

Senator, the rest is up to you.
